INTERPRETACIÓN:

"Losing my religion" significa "perder la paciencia" en el sur de Estados Unidos. 

Michael Stipe, líder del grupo dijo que el tema de la canción era el amor. En concreto, la canción narra la obsesión por un amor que no es correspondido y te lleva al borde de la locura. 

Stipe también dijo sobre la canción que "es simplemente una clásica canción pop sobre la obsesión. Siempre he creído que las mejores canciones son las que cualquiera puede escuchar, ponerse en ese lugar y decir: Sí, ese soy yo”

Para entender perfectamente la canción, tan solo hace falta citar la parte final:
